[outside the dream syndicate]

last night i dreamt of william blake...

a feathered dinosaur-fossil from china...

the cheshire cat...

some more smiling faces...

a dark giant tear...

that 2 + 2 = 5...

a man with no clothes on...

a flying toaster...

some paint that didn't stick, but ran away...

coloured glass beads, transforming into rays of light...

future-cars with no wheels on...

electronic music made of insect noises...

a giant octopus corporation...

a nest of angry people,feeding on hate-seeds...

the letter "a"...

the letter "x"...

lots of people at an exhibition...

the scream...

an unmade bed...

lots and lots of dripping chocolate...

a basket full of little snails...

a phoenix...

a flame...

[when dreams are electric]

-Fear not, fellow dreamers, for the X will soon get back to his/her/its usual frenetic posting fashion...But, currently getting sucked into the frightfully busy anthill chaos-stream which ensues as a new academic year begins, focus will be elsewhere for a while...Well, that doesn't mean dreams won't be electric ever again...The X will soon be back with rabid ramblings, do check back ever so often, dream on in sleep and the electric dream which is the beauty of your waking life, and new things will be posted up shortly!!!...But in the meantime, what does it really matter, when there are far brighter and shinier bloggers doing their thing, posting up posts which brings your mind elsewhere, transcending stale borders and making your excitement fresh again? - I say: -Read, listen, discover, illuminate!!!
-------See you on the other side of the noosphere moebius loop...lots of love.---------------------------------------------------------------------

[hanging on in quiet desperation is the lonely way- the joker on the hill]

XVIII. THE MOON

THE CARD: Edward Scissorhands, bizarre and fear-provoking to many. He himself is confused and disoriented, somewhat crippled by his own fears and anxieties, but capable of producing the tableaux of fantasy. This is the nature of the Moon. Like Edward, the Moon radiates a sense of surrealism, distortion, and illusion.

MEANING: Could it be that the world you are living in currently seems to bear no resemblance at all to the one you woke up in a week ago- even though your home, your friends and family, and even the jar of mayonnaise in your refrigerator are all the same as they ever were? You are seeing the world from the Moon side. What has brought you here? Are you experiencing fears that put unattractive shadows on the things you know and love? The Moon can be a wake-up call to return to the safer reality; to do so is within your grasp. Although the Moon can frighten with its illusion, it can also be seductive, but the same warnings still apply. The Moon is a signal to wake yourself up and face the reality around you, no matter how harsh it may seem; this is the only way you can truly do something to change it.

IX. THE HERMIT

THE CARD: Morrissey, sulking, self-righteous and ostentatiously undersexed, illuminated by Light That Never Goes Out, is our Hermit. His isolation is part of the price that he pays for his wisdom and attainment, but it is also his love for the material world and society that makes his struggle necessary to him. He is the ultimate outsider.

MEANING: Since obviously no one has invited you anywhere, take this opportunity to reflect, alone, and look for the answers you seek within. Perhaps there is someone you know who eminates the light of truth that is the Hermit’s one true possession; you may also consider going to this person now for knowledge. Still, there is always a Hermit within us, and instead of moping, utilize your stripped-down social situation discover something you can use later, perhaps with company.

I'm writing this to say
In a gentle way
Thank you, but no.
I will live my life as I will undoubtedly die,
ALONE

[both via: The Eighties Tarot]
-Haha, this is hilarious...!! ;) Eighties' stars goes tarot style, check it out!!!-The Cocteau Twins as the "love"-card got to be my absolute favourite so far...I wonder why they didn't print them up as real cards, though...(Aww, well- just my geekiness factor talking there, I reckon!)...And what is Mark Almond doing as the trickster? That is just plain wrong!!!But he was always a wrong'un...And what the fark is Bananarama doing in there?(Bearing in mind Kid Shirt's deconstruction of the group, just a week or two earlier)-Is this some sort of cosmic conspiracy? Only the Norns will know. -I'm getting a bit confused now...//-X

[stop these lines]

Morning peace dusty air
Clean your teeth comb your hair
Dressed in clothes you always wear
Go to work I won't be there
Lunchtime snackbar eating chips
Ketchup's running down your lips
Deadeyed waiters selling bibs
Which you have to fix with clips
Sitting waiting find an end
Meaningless with no comment
Is this life in your own hand
People are like grains of sand
Pick up streets and pull down skylines
Ravish women blast the mines
Burn the whiskies spill the wines
Find beginnings stop these lines

[all hail the mighty comus!]

...Ruminating over this record, I tried in usual obsessive fashion to actually craft out my enthusiasm in words, of course failing miserably...I then rummaged through my old drawer of music-related strangeness and other obscure paraphernalia...And to my great joy, found this telling and um, "descriptive" little blurb from the Aquarius records crew, who did a much better job describing the records' dark, twisted britishness than i'll ever be capable of: Read it, hear it, and weep!
REVIEW:
"What has to be our favorite British pagan folk psychedelic prog rock album ever (in other words, quite possibly our favorite album ever, period!) is finally available again on cd, and in a gorgeous Japanese mini-lp gatefold sleeve to boot, with the disc itself all state-of-the-art remastered, sounding great.
THIS RECORD SCARES US. Hearing it is like stumbling upon some forbidden ancient ritual that scares you to death. You stand paralyzed, too afraid to look away. Comus's singular, frightening sound and violently poetic lyrics have kept them from taking their rightful place alongside Fairport Convention, Incredible String Band, and the rest of Britain's psychedelic folk royalty.
And we don't write the words psychedelic folk royalty without a certain amount of trepidation. At first glance Comus would seem to fit squarely in the Ren-Faire camp: bongos, flute, oboe, 12-string guitar, and no drummer. But never has the whole of a band so completely defied its parts; their sound is as mesmerizing as it is repulsive. Upon the record's initial release, one British music journalist wrote that she "didn't get past the first track, which sounded like a cross between a frenzied version of the witches chorus from Macbeth, and Marc Bolan being squeezed to death." Funny thing is, that's a fairly apt description. Tales of murder, rape, insanity, and witchcraft unfold amid a swirling abyss of seething acid folk. Squalls of shamanistic wailing jut uncomfortably from serene, tranquil melodies; guttural growls battle a delicate angelic chorus, echoing the violent struggle of the lyrics. Flutes, hand drums, acoustic guitars, and a violin clamber atop one another in a chaotic melee, creating a pagan folk not unlike that of The Wicker Man soundtrack gone totally bonkers.
Although the band has been resolutely ignored by mainstream music fans, the press, and the majority of the underground, a small rabid following has kept a reverential vigil beside the corpse of Comus.
Nurse with Wound cronies Current 93 modeled their '90s sound after '70s British folk, Comus especially. They even went so far as to cover "Diana," Comus's only single, on their album Horsey. Swedish progressive black metallers Opeth have always been outspoken about their love of Comus. Their acclaimed 1998 album was called My Arms, Your Hearse, after the lyrics of "Drip Drip" (on First Utterance). And it's not surprising. This record is so powerful and frightening and totally devastating even 30 years later.
And never would I have thought that a record as old as me, with flutes and bongos fer chrissakes, could be so absolutely malevolent, both sonically and lyrically! But like I said, this record scares us. And we know you like to be scared too! Still ranks as one of our all time favorites. Christians, beware!"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(-And oh, this would be an appropriate time to remind you good folks that this marvellous slice of vinyl is actually being reissued, -not on vinyl,alas!-but on high fidelity compact disc....So, get it!...Listen! And be afraid...!)

[this is the beginning of the end of the beginning of the end of the...]

”Little Tanzania”, summer 1995. It is pitch dark, the hot summer night is dry, but a cool breeze softens our skin. We’re in the middle of a small forest, my friend Matti and me- we curl up by a big tree and light up our spliffs. From the plain we can still hear the drumbeats, frenetic now, as the night has fueled away all logic and the people seem to exist on a higher plane of consciousness, evading their egos, fusioning into one thought, one body, one being, one dance... We will soon get back to the celebration. But for the time being, we enjoy the feeling of quiet contemplation, away from the camp lights and the drums. She grins at me in the dark, and giggle something inaudibly. I’m too tired to answer, I just nod at her in silence and continue to stare up at the stunning night sky... Over the forest and the field, the sky is wider, bigger, darker than I can ever remember seeing it before... The stars have suddenly amassed a special beauty, almost as little planets shining down at us, alight with the spirit of Shingweng’we, the mythical dragon the medicineman and his chum told us about earlier in the day, after the snakedance when the small kids needed a well-earned break and some entertaining fun... I shiver, it starts getting a bit too chilly suddenly. She looks at me without saying anything, yawns and hand me the spliff. -We smoke in silence. Distant singing, the rhythm of the dance, joyful shrieks of laughter, the rattling of sticks, a cacaphony of faraway voices, the odd bird waking from its sleep and croaking and flapping away to some part of the forest more quiet, away from the sounds of human folly and celebration and happiness...
She touches my arm, mumbles something. –“What?” I ask. She continues, her voice a little louder now. –“I will remember this moment always,” she says.

[empty your glass now]

underneath a starless sky
the wicked race goes on
some people cry for money
others in the face of death

the stench of blood-stained hands
twisted world maps
a tophat invisible
(tossed off but still reminiscent
of days past-)
greedy lies
thieves and lovers
sons and daughters

silent voices.
anaemic streets,
a world of difference:
-too much pain
-too much dying
we’re going down the long slow path
to hell and back

[A CELL]
All my cells start to change
and my body has new life
molecules that will die
that heredity has left to me
I'll be a cell among motors
as a cell, I'll live
the two of us together we will travel quicker than light
around the sun like time machines
fighting against the time
I'll be a cell among motors
as a cell I'll live.
