[calling all kids and misfits]

[-In response to Loki's "escape-tactics"-question, here's the somewhat sad and embarrassing answer:]

[This very charming interpretation of Jarvis Cocker, comes from none other than our very own Jamie Hewlett, of Tank Girl fame...and a fine piece of art it is too, i must say!! -Shame he made him look like a woman, tho’- but nobody’s perfect, eh?]
***
-Ooh, this brings back memories...Pulp’s “Different Class” was the first cd i ever bought, at least with my own pocketmoney...( All while the rest of the teenage world went apeshit over the inbred, crappy idiot whinge of “britpop”-darlings like the ghastly Blur or the even crappier Oasis (-god forbid!-), this lickle teen, that is, yours truly, found Jarvis’ bitter and ironic musings strangely soothing, volume turned up max on her tinny cassette-walkman headphones, tip-toeing her long and thorny way down the deserted grimey pavements, towards that bleak prison shadow- which meant, the big, frightening circus maximus of inner-city schoolyard terror, where druggy-gangs and school bullys made her life very miserable indeed...)
-Never had lyrics made so much sense, connected as closely with a teenage mind as in those grey and anaemic days of woe...Met with the anguish-filled, breathless beats of a fourteen-year-old heart, running towards the nearest shopping centre to hide in the labyrinth of glaring neon-streaming gambling machines and little old minimum-money pensioners ventilating their dogmonsters outside Spar-food or the centre post office, hoping the persecutors wouldn’t notice your prescence deep down behind the tacky gift-shop china display or the smelly phonebooth with indecent messages inked onto the paint-fading metal walls...
-Clasping on to your headphones, scrawling lyrics in notebooks, on old scruffy boots, inside gum paper, stitching on your jacket the badge of indie pride, only to see the very same jacket and your dear sketchbook disappearing down the urine-stinking interior of a scabby schooltoilet, laughing scoundrels beating you unconscious in a corner...Ah, those were the days. But Jarvis got me through. What does he do at this exact moment, i wonder?...It doesn’t matter Jarvis, you knew how the outsiders could get their revenge, years after the rage and bitterness have vanished to nothing but a faint trace, of ancient fears and misery...( -Nah,i lie!It was their classy, stylish, retro-synth sounds that got me, really...) -But how that very same bespectacled schoolboy could turn his different-ness into pride, made me proud of who i was too, made me decide never to give in to jealousy and small-mindedness and belittlement and threats,...because you realise, that the ways of the cowardly mob and the rules of the game doesn’t apply to you...’Cause the future belongs to us, the misfits and beaten kids of yesterdays tears...It is a beautiful world indeed. –I’ll never forget that, Jarvis. -Bless you, man.

["MIS-SHAPES"]
Mis-shapes, mistakes, misfits.
Raised on a diet of broken biscuits, oh we don't look the same as you
We don't do the things you do, but we live around here too.
Oh really.
Mis-shapes, mistakes, misfits, we'd like to go to town but we can't risk it
Oh 'cause they just want to keep us out.
You could end up with a smash in the mouth just for standing out.
Oh really. Brothers, sisters, can't you see?
The future's owned by you and me.
There won't be fighting in the street.
They think they've got us beat, but revenge is going to be so sweet.
We're making a move, we're making it now, we're coming out of the side-lines.
Just put your hands up - it's a raid yeah:
We want your homes, we want your lives,
we want the things you won't allow us.
We won't use guns, we won't use bombs
We'll use the one thing we've got more of - that's our minds.
Check your lucky numbers, that much money could drag you under, oh.
What's the point of being rich if you can't think what to do with it?
'Cause you're so very thick.
Oh we weren't supposed to be, we learnt too much at school now
we can't help but see.
That the future that you've got mapped out is nothing much to shout about.
We're making a move, we're making it now,
We're coming out of the side-lines.
Just put your hands up - it's a raid.
We want your homes, we want your lives,
we want the things you won't allow us.
We won't use guns, we won't use bombs
We'll use the one thing we've got more of - that's our minds.
Brothers, sisters, can't you see?
The future's owned by you and me.
There won't be fighting in the street.
They think they've got us beat but revenge is going to be so sweet.
We're making a move. We're making it now.
We're coming out of the sidelines.
Just put your hands up - it's a raid.
We want your homes, we want your lives,
we want the things you won't allow us.
We won't use guns, we won't use bombs
We'll use the one thing we've got more of - that's our minds.
And that's our minds. Yeah.

[-Speaking of Jamie Hewlett, to move on to something completely different now, there is a very charming and sweet little interview with him in the latest issue of Special Ten magazine...And on DVD, too!!They really do spoil us these days...Shame i'm just as skint now as i was then...Monochrome days, of pale indiekid grief...before hiphop, before techno, before highschool coolness, before going out, before clubs, before life...Pulp and Bjørk were my first loves...]

-Damn.
This is what happens when you pick a random picture and try to write from that...(Not that i haven't told you the truth, only that i'd excaggerated the importance of that record just so that the text could fit in with the picture...Now everyone probably think i'm some raving Pulp fan...Oh, the irony. I'm not even a fan. I never got any urge to run out and buy their other records, i never did. - I listened to other records at that time which probably meant more to me. But mentioning that would ruin the post, wouldn't it?...Ah, well. :-/
